Sweet Jeanette says it is from an old Southern Living Magazine.

We love pecan pie at our house and I can't wait to make this cake. I showed the picture to my husband and he told to make sure I captured the recipe. So, I pinned it to my Cooking board on Pintrest and then added it to this blog. Then I printed it. I can't go wrong with all of these safe guards.

This was the first time I visited Sweet Jeanette blog and I am thrilled with all of the fabulous looking recipes I found there. I can wait to really dive into her entire blog. I even added her to my favorite internet places. (found on the right side your screen)

You can find the recipe at this spot on her blog. http://sweetjeanette.blogspot.com/2011/12/pecan-pie-cake.html

I found this recipe in Sunset Magazine. I tore it out of the magazine and it is getting really tattered. I have not tried it yet; but, I do not want to loose it; so, I am posting it here and on Pintrest. I think this would be awesome with Peaches or apples too. If anyone tries it please let me know how good it is.
This would also make a great teacher's gift or shower gift. After using it for about a month, I was inspired to write a review. I was not solicited by anyone to write this review.

I love love love this iron. I have owned MANY irons and this is the best iron I have ever owned. It does not spit, sputter or leak. The steam is continuous even at lower temperatures. It is almost like using a steamer.

This iron is not cheap. It does have a price tag of $139.00. I debated for a long time between this iron and it's lower priced sister, Velocity V50, that is priced at $99.00. Both have free shipping. I decided on the V100D

because of the replaceable anti-scale cartridge. Keeping the inside of an iron free of scale is important to me.

I did have to adjust how I hold the handle. If you hold it too close to the top, it is easy to bump the temperature contol. It is also a little difficult to see the water level. But these two minor issues would not stop me from purchasing this iron again.

It is winter; so, the the static electricity levels are high. I heard alot about dryer balls; but, I can never remember to buy them. Then I found an old tennis ball in the garage. It reminded me of an article I read about using tennis balls in the dryer instead of a dryer sheet. I had just finished a load of towels and this seemed like the perfect trial. It worked like a charm. The towels came out static free and fluffy. I think it even took less time than normal to dry. This was an unexpected bonus. I am going to try to remember to buy more tennis balls. I am thinking for heavy loads I may need to add a couple more.

Give it a try and let me know how it works for you.
She is always coming up with great ideas. Anyway, who knew tote bags were so hard to find these days? I used to see them everywhere. I was looking for a pink or black and I needed it pretty quick. First, I headed to Hobby Lobby and found a package of totes with several colors, no pink and no black. Then, I tried JoAnn's; they only carry cream. Next, I went to the dollar store, they had a few that were already decorated and very poor quality. My last stop was Michael's; like Hobby Lobby, they only sell totes in packages. At least Michael's package had a hot pink I could use. When I got home I gathered the supplies (tote bag, tulle and ribbon) and began my new project. Look how cute it came out.

I listed it in my Etsy shop and I have already sold several. I will certainly need to order these totes from my online source; unfortunately, pink and black are on back order. Oh well. :(
BTW, I know the background is not the best in these pictures; but, I needed a sunny place and I was in a hurry.
I was perplexed by the name. Why is it called Oilcloth? The oilcloth I found in the marketplace reminded me of vinyl. I am not a big fan of vinyl fabric. This fabric does seem to have better qualities than vinyl; but, I was still not sold on the product. Come to find out, the fabric IS coated with type of vinyl.

Some of the remedies are pretty interesting; but, when the mosquito itch is driving me crazy, I am willing to give most anything a try. Most of the relieve comes from common household items. It is certainly worth a look.
Judy Creatshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16588857625226654138noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3197006632090772058.post-81343630697682210182010-07-13T12:14:00.002-04:002010-07-13T12:19:01.409-04:00Blog Face Lift

In case you haven't noticed, Judy Creates got a face lift! I don't know where to start. This book is great for both beginning and seasoned sewers. It is sprial bound making it easy to lay flat when working on a project.

The patterns are divided into sections such as "On The Go" (bags, lunch bags, lap top covers etc), "Household Affairs" (tea cozies, aprons, hot& cold packs) and "Outfit Your Small Wonder" There are patterns for dog couture items, toys for children, great shopping bags and a wealth of small projects that really can be made with just a yard or less of fabric. It is amazing to see what you can make with one yard or less of fabric.

You will also find sewing fundamentals - good for beginners or as a refresher for those of us with older cloth addictions . For the price, you can't go wrong. You will get your money's worth and so much more.

Some of these projects are for things that we could all probably figure out how to make. I don't know about you , but there are times when I am thrilled not to have to re-invent the wheel - and enjoy the fruits of what others designed and perfected. I can save my brain cells for the more involved projects.

This book has opened my eyes to the amazing number of things a person can do with just one yard (or less). I used to think of my fabric stash as nearly useless - now my old fabrics are getting used up faster than I can replace them!

All in all I really like this book a lot and will highly recommend it. It seems to have something that will please everyone and is one of those books that will be a good resource and reference book. Give it a try - I don't think that you will be disappointed.Judy Creatshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16588857625226654138noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3197006632090772058.post-7253960220692442542010-07-03T10:10:00.006-04:002010-07-03T10:39:38.656-04:00Creating a Man's Neck Tie

Recently, one of my faithful customers asked me to make her husband a neck tie. I had just made her son a diaper cover and she noticed the applique matched a dress she was going to wear in the family portrait. I have not made a tie in years; so, I was a little worried. I scoured the Internet looking for tips and tutorials. A neck tie is cut on the bias of the fabric; so, it can easily stretch out of shape during construction. I found this tutorial; but, it looked complicated and used a lot of hand sewing. I finally found my way to one of my favorite web sites called YouCanMakethis. com. I found just what I wanted. It is a pattern called "Daddy's Tie" by Patchwork Kids. The instructions were incredible and the tie came out perfect. The tie is made from cotton using Michael Miller's fabric called Round About Spa.

Now I have to get the pattern for little guys. It will be lots of fun making Daddy and me ties.

Judy Creatshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16588857625226654138noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3197006632090772058.post-84253618401636575672010-06-25T14:36:00.002-04:002010-06-27T12:23:58.749-04:00p.s. i quilt: rachel's cheesy corn chowder.

Doesn't this corn chowder look delish? I have spools of tread in several thread boxes; as well as, on smaller spool holders. It will really be awesome to have them all in one place. This project looks like something I can do; if, I can get my husband to cut the dowels for me. Here is the link: Thread Rack – Tutorial

You’ll be able to keep your threads neatly organized in one place. A quick glance will help you find that "certain" color.

Supplies needed are basic:

Pegboard, dowel rods, wood glue; optional paint and frame trim boards. The trickiest part of the job is going to gluing each piece of dowel into the holes on the pegboard; but. I am sure the result will be well worth the trouble. I am going to give the hot glue for wood a try on this project. Cut the dowels in various lengths and you will be able hold all types of thread spools–small, large and even serger thread spools.
Judy Creatshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16588857625226654138noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3197006632090772058.post-30364013482613406632010-03-30T10:10:00.008-04:002010-03-30T10:37:12.147-04:00Fabric Easter Egg Tutorial

Easter is coming in less than a week. So, last spring when I was shopping at a yarn shop in Macon, GA, I saw a really cute felted handbag displayed and it gave me the inspiration I needed. Of course, I bought the instruction book for the handbag. It is called Knit One, Felt Two, by Kathleen Taylor. You can find it at Amazon.com. The book contains 25 easy projects of things like hats, mittens, slippers, bags, toys, etc. They all look wonderful.

This bag is very easy to make and it took only a few hours to knit. The most time consuming part was attaching the beads. I am still not quite finished. I want to add a lining with a pocket and a magnetic or zipper closure. This bag requires holding two strands of yarn together. I wanted a tweedy look; so, I chose two complimentary colors of purple. The lime green and bright blue really make it jazzy and fun. The instructions give the exact yardage of yard required for each color; so, when using the blue and green yarns, I just made a ball of half the yardage plus one additional yard for my second strand. It worked out perfect. The darker colors tend to felt and shrink more than lighter colors adding more shape to the bag.

The Felting Process:
Felting is surprisingly easy. Most animal yarns fibers will felt. Wool usually comes to mind when I think of felt. But, you can also use mohair, llama and alpaca. Some yarns have been treated not to shrink or felt; so, stay away from fibers labeled "superwash" or "shrink-proof" for felting projects. Also, some white wool yarns may be felt resistant too. Off white yarns are probably OK; but, I would suggest knitting and then felting a swatch before you begin your project.

Most knitted felting projects are knitted with very large needles and when you finish knitting the item it looks like it belongs to a giant. This is especially true of hats and slippers. Most items with shrink between 15 and 20 percent in width and 25 to as much as 40 percent in height. You have control over the amount of shrinkage and stitch definition. You simply stop the felting process when it is felted the way you want.

Once you have finished knitting your project you should place it in a lingerie bag. This will prevent your project from becoming wrapped around the agitator in your washing machine. I have a front loading washing machine; so, I just throw my project in the machine without a bag.

Toss the lingerie bag into your washing machine. You may want to add an old pair of jeans to the machine for extra agitation; but, this is not necessary.

Add enough laundry soap for a small load.Adjust the machine setting to the smallest load and set the water temperature to HOT.

Shut the lid and turn on the machine. The magic will now begin.

Check the felting process every few minutes by stopping the machine. Remove your item for the bag and and look at it. If it is the size you require and fully felted remove them from the machine. If not, put the item back in the bag and start the machine again. Repeat this process until the item is felted as you desire.

Rinse your project in water that is slightly cooler than the wash water.

Remove the excess water by spinning it in the washing machine for just a minute or two. Then roll it in a bath towel to absorb the rest of the moisture

Once the item is felted you will need to shape it. I found that placing the project on a flat surface and smoothing it to the desired shape will work for most projects. Don't be afraid to tug and pull on your project to achieve the shape you want. Felted items are very durable. For a really professional look you can use pins to block and hold the project to the desired shape. Don't be surprised if it takes a few days for your project to dry. If your project doesn't suit you when dry, no problem, just get it wet again and reshape it.

Here is a picture of my bag before it was felted. You can see all of the knitted stitches and the elongated shape.

The Care of Your Felted Project:
Your felted item can be dry cleaned or washed at home using the same methods as those you follow for hand-washables. Don't use hot water to wash felted items. The items should be gently washed with a mild detergent or a wool detergent that does not require rinsing. Then the item should be air dried.

Fill a sink full of water add detergent and let your item soak for an couple of hours. Gently scrub away and stained or dirty areas being careful not to stretch the item. Once your item is washed and rinse gently press out the excess moisture while it is still in the sink. Then blot out the remaining water with a large bath towel. Block and shape the item as you did before and let air dry.

I hope you give felting a try; I know you will love it. Have fun! :)Judy Creatshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16588857625226654138noreply@blogger.com1
